Most everyone loves fresh vegetables from the garden or home plots or pots.
However you do it having a plan is best. The first part of the plan is location
which should be sunny for at least eight hours a day. Next is the soil you
grow your plants in. If you have good garden soil the addition of a few organic
items like bone meal, rock phosphate, and some composted manure will insure
you success. If your ground is hard and or gummy you may want to add some
Espoma Green Sand to it plus some natural humus.
Used as a soil conditioner and fertilizer since the 1700's, Greensand is a
long-term, slow-releasing fertilizer of marine origin with iron-potash-silicates
and unique properties that loosen clay soils and increase the moisture-holding
capacity of both clay and sand. When added to container potting soil, Greensand
significantly reduces the need to water.
Application Rate: Apply 5 to 10 lbs per 100 sq.ft. Additional application
rates included on package.
Another good organic soil conditioner is Bumper Crop which not only loosens
soil but also feeds them organically.
Plants can even be grown in this media with out soil and will thrive. Try
it in your pots or cold frame and see for your self.
