Your
home can be bright and cheerful all year long with the use of houseplants
and flowering plants. Understanding a few important points such as light and water requirements, make all the difference in the world. Many of us tend to overwater in the winter and may need to the perform the "look and feel" test. If your plant looks good and the soil isn’t overly dry - don’t water it. If leaves are falling from your plant it could be to wet or too dry or not enough light. Use the ‘feel ‘test. If the soil feels dry and you haven’t watered it for a few days or week it may need water. Many houseplants can go easily a week without water in the winter especially in the low light areas. If you have your plant in a bright sunny window you may want to check it every other day. |

Most Succulents and Cacti can go weeks without watering in the winter so let them alone and they’ll do well for you. Most enjoy good light and some such as the Jade plant (Crassula arborescen) will surprise with growth, so be sure to give them a large enough pot. Growing houseplants is not only interesting it can be rewarding to know that many of these are air purifiers. children are fascinated with succulents and can start a collection that will help them see the beauty of nature. |

Children
are fascinated by unusual things like Venus Fly Traps, Living Stones
and more. For children we have a fishpond with Coy and Goldfish, recently got in 4 finches and in the summer our observation bee hive is a very educational attraction. Our three bunnies are inside our greenhouse for the winter but will be out when warmer weather returns. |

Some folks like to have living plants
in their homes but don’t want to be bothered by too much care; the above
plants are just the answer for low light and low water requirements. Of course
the Pothos and Philodendron families will also meet these requirements and
are good climbers or hangers.
Just give some indirect light a ‘little’ water and let them alone.
None need fussing over.
