June & July have been about as hot months as we have seen in a number of years in Central PA. Many plants have been suffering as a result of the intense heat. If it seems discouraging to you remember that some plants are more adaptable to these extremes than others. Here are a few good selections for the hot weather of plants still available to plant.

Sun Annuals: Vinca, They are flourishing in the Ashcombe gardens at this time.
Lantanna Love the heat and will do well until frost.
Pentas, Dahlias, Angelonia, Portulaca, Petunias, Diamond Frost all do well in the sun and heat. Available in six inch ready to plant blooming pots.

Shade Annuals: Impatiens, and Coleus.

Perennials for a Summer in the sun: Hibiscus, Rudbeckia, Garden Phlox, Day Lilies, Heliopsis, Sedums and Grasses.

Shade Perennials: Hosta, Helleborus, Anemone.

Nursery Stock: Junipers, Potentilla. Crape myrtle, Butterfly Bush, Weigelia, Summer Sweet(Clethra), Rose of Sharon, all love the heat.

The rewards of gardening are many, beauty for the eye, stimulation for the body, and a sense of peace in these turbulent times of ours.
